Guava (പേരയ്ക്ക)
Guava is the most common fruit found in and around Kerala villages and in many other places. Depending on its size, guavas can be small, big or oval shaped. Small sized guavas are commonly seen in Kerala. The outer surface of guava is a bit harder which is dark green in colour and when it is ripened, the colour turns to yellow. Inside the fruit skin, the pulp is very thick and can be of white or pink in colour. The pulp contains enormous amount of seeds which is mostly not much harder.
Guavas are packed with Vitamin C and contains good source of fiber which helps in digestion. Vitamin C is very important for our body to stay away from illness as it helps in maintaining our immune system.
People in Kerala used to consume Guava in its variety of forms like raw guava, fresh guava juice, guava ice cream, guava jams and so on.
Guava leaves are also medicinal. In Kerala, guava leaves are used as one of the ingredient for the treatment of post preganancy.
